Why Install Power Tilt & Trim?
Adding power tilt and trim transforms the way you use your boat.
Easier Launching and Beach Landings
Raise or lower your outboard instantly without leaving the helm. Beaching your boat and operating in shallow water becomes safer, quicker and far more convenient.
Faster Planing
Starting with the engine trimmed fully in helps your boat climb onto the plane more quickly by keeping the bow down and improving acceleration.
Better Ride and Handling
Once on the plane, simply trim the engine out until the steering becomes lighter and the hull rides cleanly across the water. Correct trim reduces hull drag, improves ride comfort and often increases fuel efficiency and top-end performance.
Avoid over-trimming, as this may cause propeller ventilation or cavitation. If this occurs, simply trim the engine back in slightly until normal performance returns.
Adjust for Any Load
Whether you're boating alone, carrying passengers or transporting extra gear, the Island 55 allows you to adjust your engine trim to suit changing conditions for the best possible ride.
Is this Right for You?
This unit is ideal if you:
- Want the convenience of power tilt and trim without replacing your outboard.
- Are tired of manually lifting your engine.
- Frequently operate in shallow water or launch from beaches.
- Want improved hole-shot, handling and overall boat performance.
- Have a heavier outboard that's difficult to lift manually.
Maintenance
To ensure reliable long-term performance, follow these simple maintenance guidelines.
Electrical Connections
Inspect electrical terminals at least once each season. Clean if required and apply dielectric grease to protect against corrosion.
Saltwater Use
After every use in saltwater, thoroughly rinse the entire unit with fresh water to remove salt and debris and help prevent corrosion.
Lubrication
The gearbox is factory-filled with grease.
At the beginning of each boating season, lubricate the actuator using a quality marine waterproof grease through the upper grease fitting.
Depending on usage, an additional 3–4 pumps of grease during the season may be required.
Do not apply more than four pumps of grease at one time.
A second grease fitting is located on the outer cylinder. Remove the cover screw and apply only a small amount of grease if required.
Long-Term Storage
Before storing your boat for an extended period:
- Remove the outer cylinder plug.
- Apply a corrosion-inhibiting lubricant to protect internal components.
- Refit the plug securely.
- Before returning the unit to service, reapply lubricant and reseal the plug threads with a suitable marine-grade silicone sealant.

The Island 55 Power Tilt & Trim Unit is backed by a 12-month manufacturer's warranty.
